POSTER <LAST MANKIND>
‘Fantastic 7’ is a high-profile initiative co-organized by the Cannes Marche du Film and the Sitges International Fantastic Film Festival. Each year, seven major international fantastic film festivals (including BIFAN) each nominate one standout project to be showcased to the global film industry. As BIFAN’s selection, Last Mankind will head to the Cannes Film Market this May to pitch to global investors and producers. Following its international debut, it will meet domestic audiences as an official selection at the 30th Bucheon International Fantastic Film Festival (BIFAN), held from July 2 to 12.
■ A Post-Apocalyptic Tale of New Humanity
Last Mankind is set in a post-apocalyptic world where life on Earth has been nearly extinguished by air pollution. Dae-seung (Cho Seong-ha), a biotechnologist living in an airtight bunker with his daughter Shin-ah (Seok-hee), conducts harsh experiments on her to create a "new human" capable of surviving the toxic exterior. Their world is thrown into chaos when a mysterious survivor, Tae-oh (Yoo Jae-sang), arrives with the shocking news that a village of survivors exists somewhere in the wasteland.

■ Innovation Beyond Tradition: AI and Virtual Production
The film was originally selected for the K-ARTS School of Visual Arts Feature Film Production Support in 2021 and has since reached its final form with technical support from AT Lab. Director Hur Gun, an alumnus of the K-ARTS Department of Film, remarked: "Thanks to the support of the school and AT Lab, I was able to complete this project by utilizing advanced technologies such as Virtual Production and AI." He added, "I hope our film, which utilizes a rapidly changing technological environment beyond traditional VFX, serves as an inspiration and an alternative model for creators facing budget and environmental constraints."
