The Korea National University of Arts (K-ARTS, President Pyun Jang-wan) and KAIST (President Lee Kwang-hyung) announced the successful conclusion of the "2026 K-ARTS X KAIST Freshman AI Film Camp," which ended on February 11 at the K-ARTS Seokgwan-dong Campus.

The eight-day program, which ran from February 4 to February 11, was designed to cultivate the creative and interdisciplinary talents required by future society. Celebrating its fifth anniversary, the camp is a cornerstone of the 2022 Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the two institutions, providing freshmen with early exposure to cross-disciplinary collaboration.
■ Mastering the Creative Process: AI as a Problem-Solving Tool
Thirty-six freshmen from six K-ARTS schools and KAIST worked in teams to produce short films. Participants experienced the entire production cycle—planning, directing, cinematography, and editing—while actively integrating generative AI into their creative workflows.
The educational focus shifted from simply introducing AI technology to utilizing it as a "problem-solving tool" for creative challenges. Students used cutting-edge programs including Midjourney, Runway, ElevenLabs, Suno, and Kling to transform abstract ideas into tangible visual and auditory content, simultaneously enhancing their technical literacy and creative application skills.
■ Reflective Collaboration and Student Testimonials
The final day featured a screening session where teams shared their results and reflected on the communication hurdles and breakthroughs experienced during the collaborative process.
● Kim Ji-won (KAIST, School of Freshman Studies): "When our scientific creativity met the artistic creativity of our peers, an extraordinary synergy occurred. I truly enjoyed the time
spent utilizing each other's expertise beyond my expectations."
● Kang Hyo-rim (K-ARTS, School of Visual Arts): "I strongly recommend this camp to the class of 2027. I hesitated at first, but it was a decision I don't regret. It’s a vital opportunity
to collaborate with diverse peers and build a foundation for the future."
■ A Proven Educational Model for Future Talent
The program has solidified its reputation as a premier exchange platform, previously achieving a 100% satisfaction rate (recommended by participants to their juniors).
Chung Yon-seung, Associate Vice President of Student Life at KAIST, remarked, "I am delighted to see this fifth camp conclude successfully. Students from different backgrounds understood each other’s way of thinking and experienced AI as a creative partner—a crucial starting point for growing into future convergent talents."
Professor Seung-moo Lee, Director of the K-ARTS Art & Technology (AT) Lab, added: "The greatest achievement of this camp is that students began to think through the common language of 'creativity' rather than distinguishing between art and technology. We expect this experience to expand into new forms of research and creation in their respective fields."
